How to use a VPN on Windows 10

When you use a VPN to browse the internet, you are doing so via an encrypted connection - hence keeping your activity private. If privacy is of a concern to you and you use when you are using Windows 10, just follow the steps below to secure your connection.


  1. Click the Cortana button or search bar and enter 'vpn'.
  2. Change virtual private networks should be the top suggestion, go ahead and choose this option.
  3. From the top of this screen, click on the button 'Add a VPN connection'.
  4. You will now be presented with a form asking you to enter your VPN details.

Enter the following information:

VPN Provider Windows (built-in)
Connection name Enter a name that will be used for this connection. I.e. VPN Example Connection
Server name or address Enter the server name or address provided by your VPN provider.
VPN Type Automatic
Type of sign-in info User name and password (usually)

Now all that's left is to use your new VPN connection. Click on the Wifi icon in your taskbar and select your newly created VPN connection.
